Improved Heat Exchangers
Improved Heat Exchangers

Hospitals depend on coils to transfer heat from water to air in air handling units and duct coils. Every coil imposes a penalty on both the water side and the air side in the form of resistance to flow -- resistance that must be overcome by fan and pump energy. Improved heat exchanger coils could be an important part of reducing transport energy, which is 10-15% of a typical hospital building.

Microchannel coils have become common in air-cooled chillers. manufacturers are starting to develop microchannel technology for water/air coils that can be used in air handling units.
